Iris Chavira

Iris is an Assistant Corporation Counsel with the City of Chicago Department of Law, where she defends the City of Chicago and City employees in federal civil rights lawsuits. Prior to joining the City of Chicago, Iris served as an Associate General Counsel with the Office of the Illinois Governor. As an Associate General Counsel, she managed a portfolio of nine state agencies and oversaw the Governor’s executive clemency process. Iris began her legal career as an Assistant State’s Attorney with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, where she was assigned to the Civil Actions Bureau and Juvenile Justice Bureau.
 
Iris is currently the Treasurer for the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois. Iris also co-chairs the law school committee and the Latina lawyers committee.Prior to becoming Treasurer for HLAI, Iris served as Membership Secretary and on the Board of Directors.
 
Iris received her Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law, where she served as President of the Latino Law Student Association.
