Luis Avila is a Chicago native, having grown up in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois – Champaign Urbana and his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law. Upon graduation, Mr. Avila worked as an associate at Lord, Bissell & Brook, now know as Locke Lord LLP. Thereafter, he opened his own practice before joining Kluever & Platt LLC as an associate. He transitioned into an in-house role as Senior Counsel for Heidrick & Struggles International, Inc. and, in 2010, was promoted to Assistant General Counsel. In 2013, Mr. Avila joined US Foods, Inc. as Assistant General Counsel and was promoted to Associate General Counsel in 2015 with management over the Purchasing & Operations team. In 2016, Mr. Avila was named Interim General Counsel for US Foods, Inc.
In December of 2013, Mr. Avila was appointed President of Region IX for the Hispanic National Bar Association, representing Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin. In 2015, Mr. Avila was elected to the board of the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois and was also as a fellow for Leadership Greater Chicago.
